My husband and I went out an bought the April issue of Playboy just to see Emilie Autumn, and we are sad to see that there is only a very tiny image which you could look up and find through google images for free. I would save your money.
Am i the only fan of Emilie autumn who is starting to be appalled at her exposure of her body?
I remember back when she talked about hating people like this.
I’m talking about Muffins now, not just new fans who like her because she shows her breasts.
I miss the Emilie who was all for woman’s rights ans equality, and i really don’t think that exposing her body is showing that women are equal. I personally think this is showing that women will do anything for fame. Does ANYONE agree with me? Or am I alone on this one?
She’s always done things from a sexual angle. Burlesque shows are highly sexual, then there’s the Born Again video, then there’s her posting in pasties… she’s always been happy to show her body.
It’s OK I guess, but sometimes it feels like she’s trying too hard to prove something or make a statement and can only get others to pay attention to it by showing flesh.
I’ve always had problems understanding this aspect of her, but I don’t really have a say in what she does or not, nor do I have a sliver of an idea of what’s on her mind.
But yeah, after this I’ll just stick to the music/art and ignore the rest, there doesn’t seem to be much more than mindless nudity there anyway.
I bought it! It’s so lovely they mentioned her. ^_^
And, PeacockFaerie, I’m sorry muffin, but I disagree. She doesn’t just throw all of her clothes off and take trashy, slutty photoshoots. She makes artwork out of “nudity” (besides the Born Again music video, I’ve never seen her even completely topless; she always seems to have those cute hearts over her nipples) — she does it in an elegant and classy way, like burlesque. She can still be for women’s rights and show some skin… there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, I think that in an ideal world, a woman should be able to pose nude without being bashed for it. In a world where woman truly had rights, they should be able to do something like pose naked because frankly, that’s their decision and if that’s what they want to do they have every right in the world. I see where you’re coming from, my friend, but you aren’t realizing that nudity isn’t always a trashy and whoreish thing. If you go about it properly, you can make it artwork, and I truly believe that is what EA does, and that’s what her attention is. I honestly don’t think she’s showing her tits to get famous, she’s definitely not that kind of person. She shows her tits because she feels like showing them, and that’s all there is to it. If she was a man who was posing naked instead, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion, because no one would care…
I really haven’t heard of many fans who became fans PURELY because she’s gorgeous. And there’s nothing wrong with being a sexual person who’s unashamed of her body. You can still be a humanist who wants equality and still be sexually free. Sexual freedom is PART of equality! And I doubt that her type of sexual/nude images would get he mainstream attention.
I absolutely agree with nell. She has her fantastic opinions, and I must say from the V.I.P.-meeting that Emilie is one of the sweetest creatures I’ve ever met, and I know she’s fun, sweet and intelligent at the same time. What kind of annoyed me after the meeting was the concert where she appears as a vulgar, brutal, extreme creature, which is art and theatre. I know. Still, I feel kind of bad about the whole thing. I feel that she’s been smiling less at concerts lately.
She’s a rockstar. She’s supposed to rock it out on stage and make it vulgar, brutal, and extreme. That makes it all the more hardcore. It’s just who she is.
Yeah I agree with Deadly Nightshade… the people who think she’s too much should have never become fans of her in the first place. There was never a time when she pretended to be a goody-goody. She’s never hidden who she is. I don’t know what all of you are on about, but she hasn’t changed at all. She’s not showing more skin all of a sudden, she’s always been open about nudity and stuff like that. There are pictures of her showing just as much skin as she does now from a few years ago. It’s not a new thing, she’s always been this way. Anyone who thinks it’s all of a sudden “new” isn’t a real fan. I first found out about her two months after the Opheliac album had first been released, and I know she hasn’t all of a sudden changed; I’ve been a fan of her this whole time, unlike some of you, I’m sure. And besides, in theater, the more extreme and crazy it is, the more beautiful it is.
i think it’s great that she is comfortable with showing her body. I think that she is possibly trying to give out a message that everyone should be comfortable with their own bodies and not be scared to expose themselves. I remember her saying once in an interview that she is aware of her flawes but she doesnt care about showing them. So yeah that’s my opinion
I have been a Muffin of EA’s since 9/12/01…the day after the terrorists attack on the US. I have been faithful and have bought practically everything that woman has produced musically and by hand. Back during the Enchant days, I was able to get a lot of her things and she gave things to me as presents for being the first person to make a fan page for her. Sadly, that page is no more. But to be a fan for so long, it’s nice to see different things she does. This nudity issue is nothing, folks. She could be like some American artists selling DVD porn for god sakes! Actors and Actresses get naked for our entertainment, and remember, Emilie was raised in the theatre. So what she does IS, in fact, acting. Even in the “Born Again” video, she was acting. Should we, the people who listen to her, judge her for what she chooses to do? I think not, plague rats. We should follow our mistress and not question her for her decisions in the entertainment business. When I found out she was in Playboy, I was like, “You go girl!” and bought a copy even though I don’t have the extra cash to spend. I’m a collector, and anything I can get my hands on that EA is in, I buy. If you think showing off pastie covered nipples is bad, she could have posed for Penthouse and showed her twat! EA is NOT trashy.
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it or look at it.
Rant over.
I can’t wait to get my copy in the mail. It should be here on Monday. My girlfriend and I will enjoy looking at it. I’ve given my girlfriend the plague too. She’s new to EA’s world. Boy is she in for a treat!
i love Emilie and she is fine enough with her body to show it off once in a whille and there is this interview with emilie saying just that that she loves her body and does’t mind showing it because she knows she has flaws and she would rather embrass them rather then coving herself up it’s not like she goes around naked and she very much does believe in womens rights
Posing for Playboy is one of the most feminist things a woman can do! She is sending out a wonderful message about body acceptance and self-love. Much like her music, she is owing herself as a person and saying “this is my body, and I am fine with it.” A major part of feminism IS accepting the sexual side of the female form. After all, women have been sexually repressed for ages and in many countries to this day, there is a denial of female sexuality and pleasure. So by posing for Playboy, she is telling the world that she is unafraid of herself, that she is a normal woman and she loves herself. I applaud her for posing for Playboy!
what i love about Emilie is the fact that she doesn’t give 2 shits or a fuck about what you say. she is herself and if showing her body is being herself, then by all means YOU FUCKING DO THAT EMILIE. do you know that feeling you get when you see a female celebrity showing skin and your like, “ew, gross. why would you do that?” you don’t get that when you see Emilie because she is herself. they aren’t. i haven’t been a fan for long, but i like her because she defys gravity in my own, and even other peoples, world(s). she makes me feel beautiful with all of my flaws. she did to everyone.
I remember her saying once in an interview that she is aware of her flawes but she doesnt care about showing them.
What flaws? She looks close to perfect in every photoshoot I’ve seen (apart from possibly the Enchant-era one) so I wouldn’t argue that her raunchy photoshoots are encouraging positive body-image or anything like that. Apart from the theatrical costumes in her shoots, I’d say her photos are pretty mainstream insofar as Emilie is a typically beautiful woman – white, very thin, big lips, nice breasts, small waist, etc.
I agree with HGGrimm when she says that part of feminism is embracing our sexuality and not being ashamed of it, but I think this Playboy shoot is problematic is because she’s kinda going along with the status quo – you know, the one that says that female artists need to take off their clothes and do raunchy shoots in order to boost their career, even if they don’t want to. I know Emilie doesn’t fall into that category because she did want to do it, but I can still see the problem. Her taking her clothes off isn’t at all subversive, despite her mad costumes.
Having said all that, I don’t condemn Emilie for her actions because she’s made it clear that this is what she wants to do, which is exactly what being a feminist is all about.
I think alot of what emilie does is finds the irony and stuff in the fact that she knows she gets alot of attention for her body more than her talents as an artist cause that is what men do. i think shes write. if she was this talented and not pretty she might not be as adimred as she is for waht she does. its w/e
This whole thing makes me think of “Thank God I’m Pretty”…. Realistically a woman can only become so successful without turning tricks or bumping grinds, and EA has acknowledged it, and is owning it. She’ll do it, and she’ll own it, and it will be Art. Always. I support her completely, and I think playboy is as feminist as anyone could ever go. Its tasteful, and frankly the classiest adult mag out there. I’m rambling… Soon I will become and incoherent mess…

PS – mindless nudity kicks ass!

also i think it would be more insulting if she desided to give up music and only do that.
